Fight in the Night Day 1 wrap
The Fight in the Night Powered by Enthusiast Insurance has fired into life with a busy day of on track action at Queensland Raceway today.
While for most categories it was all about fine tuning a setup in practice, however two categories ran competitive sessions.
The TFH Hire Legend Cars Australia had not one, but two races, and the Australian Innovation Race Cars Series had two qualifying sessions.
TFH Hire Legend Cars Australia
Recent Legend Cars AASA Short Track Nationals Champion Ruben Dan dominated proceedings today in the pocket rockets.
In both affairs he led home CXC Racing team boss Dylan Thomas in what was a brilliant day for the team.
Despite a mid-race pace car, Dan won the first race by over 3s, he took advantage of a scrap for second to pull out of any tow threat.
Thomas finished second, just 0.07s ahead of Riley Skinner, with Josh Benaud a further 0.1s behind, Sam Simpson rounded out the top five.
Race 2 saw Dan win by an even more dominant margin of 4.9s, again Thomas was forced to hold off a train behind.
Thomas again beat home Skinner to second, with Dean O’Brien in fourth ahead of Simpson.
Australian IRC Series
The Australian Innovation Race Cars Series had two qualifying sessions today, the first was super tight and saw the top five split by just over 0.75s.
It was local driver Darren Currie that claimed pole position for the first race of the weekend, he pipped John Goodacre by just 0.14s.
Category owner Danny Stutterd rounded out the top three, ending up just a couple of tenths faster than John Hollinger and Axel Donaldson. Geoff Taunton will start from sixth.
Q2 which sets the grid for Sunday’s first affair proved to be even tighter at the top. Currie’s co-driver Daniel Jilesen put the #4 IRC GT car on pole once again.
Again, it was Goodacre who was the bridesmaid, he was just 0.079s off pole. Stutterd himself was just 0.144s away from the pole time, Donaldson ended up fourth and Hollinger fifth.
Game Over Australian Endurance Championship
The Game Over Australian Endurance Championship ran three practice sessions today, at the end of proceedings on the combined times it was Supercars Championship race winner Fabian Coulthard and John Nikolovski that finished on top.
Tony Quinn and Matt McCutcheon ended up 0.4s behind in their Toyota Supra, both combos set their fastest time in practice 2.
Sydney Motorsport Park winners Jake Camilleri and Glen Walker were third, Ginetta drivers Anthony Levitt/Angus Baills and Mark Griffith/Tom Hayman rounded out the top five.

The TA2 Muscle Car Series did not hit the track today, they will be out for their sole practice session early tomorrow morning.
